Prison Chapel

The Director of the Ensenada prison (warden) asked us if we can build a church for the women inmates! We said SURE! as soon as we can find the funds and means to do it. Through some acquaintances we were told that Lazarian World Homes was looking for a project to build in Mexico – SOOO we followed up and asked for consideration of the Chapel build in the prison.

We were asked for more more information, photos etc, called the vetting process. We gathered all the info and sent it to the project manager of Lazarian World Homes.

One week later we hear it is looking GOOD!, and the following week the church build was APPROVED!!

This is the area in the prison that was allowed to be built.
  • Construction is just starting with the building of retaining walls
  • Slab is poured and the walls are up - getting ready to put the roof on.
  • The inside walls are painted
  • Roofing material has arrived
  • The Chapel is Finished!
  • We had the opportunity of having a small and quite prayer dedication with the Christians leaders of the "Church on The Inside"
  • Praying around the Chapel.
  • They were all very Blessed and Happy!

We have been going into the Ensenada Prison to visit many who NEVER get a visit and also take in much needed personal items. We have seen hearts of inmates change and also we have seen them on the outside after their release and some are now Pastors, leading worship, being mentors etc!! We have also seen hearts of the leadership in the prison change because of this ministry. Sometimes they, the leadership, just can’t figure out why we keep coming back.

The inmates seem to understand why we keep coming back and they are grateful we do. Recently we were able to take in t-shirts, socks, and underwear to the men’s mental ward. This seems to be a forgotten group of men as stated by a working inmate who recently pleaded for help for this group of inmates. We have adopted them and continue to take in much needed items. Another church recently provided prayer knot blankets for this ward and the women’s as well. Many prisoners we very uplifted by this gift. The young woman who was told by God to make these blankets told the inmates: Every time you wrap yourself in this blanket remember how much God loves you.

We are seeing the Christian Church grow in spiritual strength in the time we have been going into the prison. One good example of this growth is evidenced in a young woman who has been out of prison for over three years. She spent 6 years in the prison. She helps in leading worship for us when we go out to various sites. Within her testimony she states: I am grateful for the time I spent in prison because it is there that I met Jesus. WOW!
