Retreats and Conferences at the ranch

The large outdoor amphitheater at Rancho El Refugio near Ensenada, with stone-tiered bench seating

When people think of Rancho El Refugio, they usually picture mission teams: paint buckets, food bags, and a week of service in Ensenada. But the ranch opens its doors to something quieter too. Church retreats, youth retreats, conferences, trainings, and quiet days of prayer all find a home in these hills, and the campus was built with gathering in mind. If your group is looking for a place to step away and seek the Lord together, this is what awaits you.

A different pace for a different purpose

A mission trip fills the days with projects and people. A retreat does something else: it removes the noise so a group can hear the Lord together. The ranch sits in the rolling hills about 10 miles east of Ensenada, where the air is fresh, the sky feels wide, and the ocean glitters in the distance. Teams that come to work feel that quiet at the end of each day, and groups that come simply to retreat feel it all week long. It is easier to slow down, pray, and listen in a place like this, and that is exactly the point.

Houses built for gathering

The four homes on the campus were planned for group life, which makes them a natural fit for retreats and conferences:

  • The Hacienda offers 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a full kitchen, and a large dining and living space that has hosted countless evening conversations.
  • The Bridge House sleeps 14 with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, and its ocean-view living room and deck give morning coffee a view worth savoring.
  • The Barn hosts groups of up to 33 in its bunk wing of 3 bunk bedrooms and 2.5 baths, with an auditorium and kitchen that turn it into a natural center for sessions and shared meals.
  • La Quinta, the newest two-story house, gives larger groups 5 en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen, and an extra-large dining room with mountain views for plenary meals and meetings.

Because the houses sit close together, the ranch feels like one neighborhood, and a conference can spread comfortably across the whole campus. Room-by-room details are on the facilities page.

Worship space under the open sky

The heart of any retreat is time with the Lord, and the campus gives you remarkable places for it. A large outdoor amphitheater with stone-tiered seating welcomes whole-ranch worship, teaching, and events of every size. Just a few steps away, a fire pit ringed with benches draws groups together as the evening cools for songs, testimonies, and long conversations under the Baja stars. There is also space for quiet days of prayer and reflection, because sometimes the best session on a retreat is the one where nothing is scheduled at all.

Plan your days at the ranch

The doors of Rancho El Refugio are open for the groups the Lord is calling here. Whether you are planning a church retreat, a youth gathering, a conference, or a training, the ranch director will help you find the right house and shape your days, from teaching space to meal plans to free time on the coast. Share your dates and group size through the contact page, and start with the facilities page to picture your group there. Prefer a busier week of service? The campus hosts mission teams too, and our guide to what to expect on an Ensenada mission trip shows what that rhythm looks like.
